Kelsey Ullrich, LPCC, CYT

  • Hello! My name is Kelsey and I am licensed professional clinical counselor, art therapist, and certified yoga teacher residing in the high desert on the stolen lands of the Tewa people, O’gah’poh geh Owingeh (White Shell Water Place)—now referred to as Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am also a research scientist at the University of New Mexico for their Psychedelic Research Program. I have been practicing as a psychotherapist since 2017 and a client in my own personal therapy for almost twenty years. Mental health care is not only my profession but also very personal to me. I like to believe that my experience of being a client in therapy--at many different places in my life, for different needs, and with different therapists--lends to how I show up with clients and the problems I see in our current mental health care system.

Recovering from burnout in this career is what has helped me to transform the way I practice therapy and has ignited a passion to create change in the dysfunction of the mental health field. This dysfunction impacts both the people giving and receiving care. I have extensive experience working with people who are suffering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), codependence, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and addiction. While I find it extremely valuable to understand how our family origin and life experiences influence who we are and the issues we face, I also believe it is equally important to explore how oppressive systems and social issues also undeniably impact our mental health. The therapy room can be a space to not only liberate ourselves but also our world.

I take a collaborative approach in my relationship with clients. I believe clients are the experts on themselves. I am here to guide clients using my professional expertise, while also acknowledging I am human too. I do not use a prescriptive approach to therapy and I honor the unique needs every individual I meet has. I use a blend of psychodynamic therapy, liberation psychology, art therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), post-induction therapy (a type of therapy for treating codependence), and internal family systems (IFS) in my sessions with clients. If it sounds like we might be a good fit, please reach out to me on my “connect” page and let’s start a conversation!

  • I am currently a research scientist at the University of New Mexico in their Psychedelic Research Program and seeing folks in my private practice here in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
